Radiation therapy process

radiotherapy tolerance tests

SHORT VERSION

Radiation therapy includes four main steps:

  • delineation of the area to be treated by imaging: this allows targeting the radiation beams specifically to the tumor area;
  • calculation of the dose to be delivered and in how many sessions (dosimetry);
  • treatment delivery;
  • follow-up during and after the treatment.

The radiation therapy process is based on the work of a multidisciplinary team supervised by a radiation oncologist. This team also includes a radiation oncologist, a medical physicist, and a dosimetrist. Together, they will determine the main following parameters of the treatment:

  • total radiation dose
  • treatment duration
  • dose fractionation (i.e. the amount irradiation delivered at each session)
  • volume to be irradiated

External radiation therapy involves four main steps:

  • delineation of the area to be treated
  • calculation of the dose to be delivered and in how many sessions (dosimetry)*.
  • treatment delivery (radiotherapy sessions)
  • follow-up during and after treatment.

FIRST TESTS TO PREDICT A PATIENT’S RADIOSENSITIVITY

NovaGray develops and commercializes the first radiotherapy tolerance tests for patients treated for breast or prostate cancer.

Performed before the start of radiotherapy with a simple blood draw, the tests assess the patients’ individual radiosensitivity and determine their risk of developing late complications after radiotherapy.

WHY DO A RADIOSENSITIVITY TEST?

Knowing a patient’s individual radiosensitivity is important information that can help:

  • Reassure the patient in preparation for radiotherapy
  • Guide physicians in choosing the most appropriate treatment plan
  • Adapt patient follow-up after radiotherapy

Team NovaGray

NovaGray develops radiotherapy tolerance tests for breast and prostate cancer patients. NovaGray's mission is to help personalize cancer treatment by assessing each patient's individual sensitivity before starting radiotherapy. NovaGray technology has been validated by multi-center prospective clinical trials. NovaGray tests are recommended by the French Society of Radiation Oncology (SFRO).
